Seems odd, even to me, that I woke up at 4am on a Thursday morning with this song in my head. Now, to be fair, this is one of my all time favorite songs. But still, the Oz in the back of my brain that pulls the levers seems to have decided this song is a good way to start revealing what’s going on to me; like he’s allegorically telling me to click my fucking heals together. It should be noted that the Oz in my head more resembles Richard Feynman with a head full of weed than the befuddled old guy in the Wizard of Oz movie – Bongos and all. Guess the only thing to do in times like this is to enjoy the song.

About ten years ago, there was this kid playing all the Jazz and Blues festivals around the world. I don’t remember how I stumbled across this guy but it was just amazing. I thought for sure this guy wsa going to blow up and by now everyone would know his name – you might recognize his name if you’re old enough, but you’re thinking of his father. Here’s a somewhat crappy video from around then to give you an idea of what he was doing

Anywho, I don’t even think you can get his first album anymore since last time I checked it was discontinued. I’ve watched for him to show up at the New Orleans Jazz festival over the years and it hasn’t happened as far as I know and he isn’t on the schedule this year. For some reason I woke up this morning with a song in my head from that long lost album. I looked around and there isn’t much online from dear ol A.J. Croce but I found the song that was in my head and it turns out he played some little festival in San Diego last May. Here’s that song:

A little looking aorund found his site and that he’s got a new album out. I haven’t heard it but I will just as soon as I can. So I’ve been thinking about it. In 1971 Professor Longhair played the New Orleans Jazz Festival and it was an amazing comeback and possibly why anyone knows his name today. I’m just sayin…something to think about. I wonder who I’d have to get in touch with to make that happen….I have no idea. A last minute addition to the line up launching a comeback….its happened before. I’m just sayin….
